An art studio in Central Australia
The pink glow on the horizon that always rises as the sun goes down.
This land is so isolated! A road with no through traffic, no-one on the way to anywhere. The road that I am on eventually connects with a road that leads to Australia’s biggest lake, Lake Eyre, 70m below sea level and bone dry. I carried food for 10 days, with 100 litres of spare water and fuel to drive 1500km, in two days I did not pass a single car. The weather was not hot at all, compared to the 38° that it reach only a few weeks before. Summer was almost here, but it waited for me.
A fellow by the name of Jack lived in this bus, with his veranda, his water supply close by, and his shady garden – the only trees for 50km. He would come out and spend the winter months painting. Amazing to think that this bus was towed by tractor over dozens of sand dunes to get here and is situated 600km from the nearest sealed road.
Working on this photograph, the trees seemed to me like people waiting for something, who eventually turned into trees … still waiting.
