Day #66: Rending the Heavens
“Follow the Way of the Spirit”
In continuation of the previous chapter …
There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience (and unbelief). (Hebrews 4:9-11 NIV/NKJV)
From beginning to end it is the Spirit. Therefore, enter into the Rest of the Lord and it is then the Spirit that will go out before you and come and stand in place of you. One is not called to fight or war in their own flesh, but as you come Rest from your own labour, the Spirit of the Lord labours and works on your behalf. One who Rests in the Lord is most powerful, for he releases the Spirits of the Lord to war on his behalf. From beginning to end it is the Spirit of the Lord.
It is the Father that sent the Son to die on your behalf, it is then the same Father that will lead you into all the Promises of God pre-destined and established for you. But Rest is key.
If the Israelites had joined with the Father’s Heart to meet with Him on the Mountain of the Lord, the Father would have continued His work and opened the Promised Land without them having to lift a finger at all. To them, they were offered the gift of Salvation, and God freely brought them out of Egypt with His Mighty Power. And the same Mighty Power of God was there to lead them all the way through. Through this same Mighty Power, Salvation has come to your house, through the work of the Cross, and the same Mighty Power is right there to carry you into the full Promises and Destiny of God for your life.
Praise is a weapon and abandonment unto the Cross is a sword, for the Spirit of the Lord comes and stands in place of you.
Retaining it in your own heart to ‘diligently’ seek the Father first, on His Holy Mountain, you are simply living in agreement with His first and primary dream and desire. In this, you become increasingly able to hear His Voice and see His Form (John 5:37-38), and the Presence of the Spirit of the Lord to rise up in you all the more. This remains His continual underlying desire and purpose for all the generations. So then, from this Place, His people are guided and brought into the fullness of all the Promises of God. Another word for this is: approach the Kingdom of Heaven like a little child and here you shall enter in and operate from this powerful Place (Matt. 18:3). There is nothing good in us at all (Mark 10:18), all is of the Spirit; from beginning to the end it is the Spirit of the Lord.
Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh (… “who then has bewitched you”)? (Galatians 3:3 NIV)
I raised the question in the previous chapter: if the Israelites had retained it in their hearts to meet with the Father at Mount Sinai, would they ever have had to fight any battles at all? But as it were, they went the way of the many and said, “speak to us and we will listen, but do not have God speak to us, lest we die” (Ex. 20:19). The way of man is to follow laws, instructions, and the ways of others; but this is not the Way of the Spirit. the Way of the Spirit is entering into the Knowledge, Understanding, and Counsel that flows from Him, and He alone. But to this the people did not want despite the Glory of the Lord presented them.
As they trembled, Moses delighted in the Fear of the Lord and entered in (Is. 11:3).
Since the Beginning, man has decided to eat of the Tree of their own knowledge of good and evil. This path inherently separates man from the Counsel and Wisdom of God speaking freely and liberally into their life, it also separates man from the Might and Fear of the Lord. This then keeps one naked and exposed and left to fend for themselves. Through the Spirit, the believer has been offered to eat of the Tree of Life. This entering the Rest of the Lord, one enters the liberal flow of the Knowledge and Counsel of the Spirit. In this, the Might of the Spirit comes and rests upon your life and you become one surrounded and shrouded in His Glory. This is the Heart of the Father and is held in the choice of a man’s own hands.
The Lord your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul. It is the Lord your God you must follow, and him you must revere. (Deuteronomy 13:3-4 NIV)
God may at times and in situations just hold off for a second in His reply. For just as a plant watered only on the surface, one never develops deep roots of love, trust, or the capacity to draw up the deep Waters of the Spirit. So in your ‘first love’ (Rev. 2:4) seek the Presence of God as your core pursuit, in all things laying all your cares in Him and seeking the Beauty of His Face (Ps. 27:4). In this, you are opening yourself to the Waters of Knowledge, the Rivers of Counsel, the deep Channels of Wisdom, and the continual flow of the Spirit of Might.
If the Dark Cloud of the Fear and Terror of the Lord is presented you, as it was with Moses and others, enter in … do not shy away (1 Kings 8:10-12, Ps. 97.2, Duet. 4:11, Is. 11:3).
Retain therefore, a resilience of heart that continually seeks the Presence of the Lord, regardless, then in this Heaven responds. In choosing to delight yourself in the Lord, the Presence of God will come and rest upon you, and His ministering Grace will flood your soul. One does not need more knowledge, one needs He who is Himself Knowledge. Wisdom was around before the founding of the earth (Prov. 8:22), and this same Spirit of Wisdom comes and finds His home in you. A life of indifference denies Him, but a heart that draws from Above is like a deep tap-root that draws effortlessly from these Eternal realms all the moments of your life. This is the Way of the Spirit.
He that believes on me, as the scripture has said, out of his heart shall flow rivers of living water. (John 7:38 NKJV)
In bond-tying yourself to the Spirit of the Lord, setting it in your own heart to wait upon the Lord, the Spirit speaks into your heart and soul imparting Knowledge that comes from Him. In setting it in your heart to continually seek the Presence of God, remaining attentive to Him; loving Him and seeking Him with all your heart; the Counsel and Understanding from the Spirit speaks continuously into your soul gaining you ability to see and to hear.
The way of man is to always take matters into your own hands. However, the receiving of the Spirit of God is not now gaining an independence from Him, but the Spirit-filled retains it in their own heart to continuously seek and draw from the Waters of Life. These same Waters rise up and become themselves rivers of Living Water flowing from you.
The nature of springs: springs can present themselves only as dampness in the soil, others as a flow, and still yet others as a stream. But then some, you find, are completely dry, without any sign that they exist at all. Irrespective of this, the spring still remains. It is not ever the purpose of God for the Spring of the Spirit of the Lord within a man to be dry. And it is not the Spirit that retreats or hides; in truth, it is the believer that has only ceased to seek the Delight of the Presence of the Person of God, and instead follows only established doctrines about Him. This is how all revivals die, this is how the coals go cold and the Fire of God goes out. But in coming personally to humble yourself and seek the abiding flow of the Spirit, the Spirit Himself steps in and by His own Hands assists. He Himself removes the blockages with His big Hands; the restrictions and the debris.
A branch grafted into the Vine sparks into Life due to the inherent desire of the branch for Life. This branch reaches deep into the Person of Jesus, and in love seeks Him all the more (Phil. 3:7-8). Even desiring deeply to produce the Fruit of the Vine and effortlessly grow and ‘leaf’ Heaven manifest (Rev. 22:2). In this child-like belief of the Promises found in the Word of God, he follows the Way of the Spirit and seeks to meet with the Lord of Glory in the secret place of his heart, that he may behold His Glory all the more. For truly what is in a man, what is done in secret, will come forth for all to see.
The fruit of a man is in the secret place and is what he bears forth, what fruits from his life is from the overflow of his own heart (Luke 6:45). Therefore, if the light in you is dark, how dark it is (Matt. 6:23). In saying this, one who desires to walk in the Spirit sets it in his own heart to seek first the Kingdom of Heaven. Heaven isn’t far from any of us, but is in your heart and in your thinking. Heaven runs parallel to you, the Eternal realms of God are right there within. Therefore, as you set it within yourself to turn your heart unto the Presence of the Lord, and in love seek Him, Heaven is openly and plainly there for you to enter in. Entering in and finding pastures, going in and out as you please (John 10:9).
Jesus said, “by myself I can do nothing … (John 5:30 NIV)
Of Himself Jesus could do nothing, and so too is the same for us, for we are not better than He. Anything other than this is prideful, religious, and destructive vanity. However, just the same as Jesus, you have the Spirit of the Lord and now release the same. Jesus maintained connection in the Spirit, He remained walking in the Spirit because He, Himself, always sought the Presence of God. As expressed in the Exodus story, mankind always is drawn to the opinion of others, and influenced by their scoffing, instead of retaining it in their heart to seek and long to meet with God on His Holy Mountain. Retaining it in their heart just to wait, be still, and know the Lord (Ps. 46:10). And in this, entering into the ministering Presence of the Lord.
But what ended up happening was that their hearts were continually drawn back to Egypt. Concerned only about where they were and what is happening in front of them. And despite the cloud of witnesses and the testimonies of the works of the Lord, man’s heart continually draws back into captivity to this very day. Hence the Word of the Lord always appears to the indifferent, as “rule upon rule, a little here and a little there, till they fall back and are ensnared” (Is. 28:13) … for their love isn’t in Him.
The way of the Spirit-led is to be Spirit-led: the one-to-one joining with He who is Life, and living in the continual experience of open downloads from Above. In this, rivers of Living Water flow liberally from within, even the Spirits of God abundantly and actively manifest in all that you are and all that you do.
How can you believe, who receive honor one of another, and seek not the honor that comes from God only? (John 5:37-44 NKJV)
The way of man is always to follow man, but the way of the Spirit-filled is to always lay attentive to the Spirit. Man blindly follows man, and without either sight or hearing both fall together into a ditch (Luke 6:39). But the Spirit is saying to all, “come gain ears that hear and eyes that see”. In this stepping out of carnal thinking and gaining the Mind of Christ, you are being transfigured through the Power of the Spirit from flesh to Spirit. Man cannot do this for you, this is the Spirit’s work. But one who always sets it in their own heart to humble themselves before their God, and seek His Face, they are picked up and carried through all of which comes against them. They together with Him, step by step, are led by the Knowledge and Strength of the Lord.
In no means and in no way has the believer ever been asked to operate from their own strength and understanding. That is the way of Fallen man, but is not the Way of the Spirit. The Spirit-filled seeks just one underlying reality, the Presence of God; and to live as He, and to walk as He, from within the same Glory as He. And here living in enjoyment of the continual chatter in their soul from the Spirit, not only so, but come see the Might of God at work all around them just as the Son. The way of carnal man is to look to his own understanding and strength, even to their own Tree of knowledge of good and evil. But the Way of the Spirit is to continually hunger for, and eat liberally of, the Tree of Life. And the same he distributes liberally to the world of which he lives.
So just as in the time of the Exodus story, people only seek the honour and approval that comes from one another, but fail to learn the value of seeking the Honour and Approval that comes from God only (John 5:44). Jesus sought only the Honour that comes from God, and the Way of the Spirit-filled is the same. Here God Honours you and Graces your life in all that you do and all that you say, and surrounds you by His Spirit and shrouds you in His Glory. In such the Father seats Himself, and the Glory of the Lord fills the Temple. Such are also surrounded by the Angels of God, for wherever Jesus is throned Angels sing in attentive and Eternal praise.
Seek you first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matt. 6:33 NKJV)
This is the calling of the Son for all who are born of the Spirit of the Lord; seek first the Kingdom of Heaven and His Righteousness. Come back then, to your ‘first love’, for abiding here is simply coming into agreement with the Father’s first hope and desire: to meet with you and you with Him. Neither Law or your own understanding achieve this, but they are only alienating by nature; unity in the Lord, a oneness with Him, is only achieved through the Spirit.
The Father’s Heart’s desire is for the closest of relationship with you, and the closest of walks, the abiding together one to another. This is His Dream for you, and the same of which was stolen Him since the Beginning. To this the Father still climbs a hill and keeps an eager eye out for you each and every day. Come therefore, and keep an attentive ear to Him, a heart continually attentive unto Him; seeking first the Kingdom of Heaven to come alive and real to you. And here entering into His Abiding Grace; the ministering Glory of His Presence.
Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. (John 17:3 NIV)
God is Love and whoever abides in Love abides in Him. God is not law, and He is not rules or regulations – He is Love. So as you come to approach the Father in love, His Love comes upon you and remains. If you have needs approach Him with your needs. If you have questions then approach Him with questions. But if you want the Spirit then approach Him in Love.
The Spirit of God comes and stands in place of you, in His Presence and in His Might.
Unholy soul-ties: the way unto Life is the branch becoming bond-tied to the Vine. Christ Jesus is the Vine, and He who abides in Him will naturally produce much fruit of the realities of Heaven, and the Spirits of the Lord (John 15:5). Fruitfulness comes liberally without any striving at all, as one remains united in Him and He in them. Here in this place it takes no effort for the Spirits of God to flow liberally like rivers of Living Water; for this is the Way of the Spirit. The abundant Grace of God continually at work in the heart and soul of man.
Jesus is your Saviour, He alone is your Teacher – not man. Therefore, as you personally set your heart in Him you receive liberally from Him. Man means well, but man is not qualified for Jesus alone is your Redeemer, your Saviour, and your King. Honour, then, those that God brings to care for you, but only Jesus is the Vine and everyone else is a ‘branch’ just like you. Unholy soul-ties can develop, and though one means well, each one of our own hands must point only to Jesus. We are all brothers and sisters and those who do the Will of the Father are His Children; that is, brothers and sisters of the Son (Matt. 12:49-50).
Man means well and may even have great capacity and intentions, they may even die for you, but neither you or I are qualified … but Jesus alone. Be not stolen from and nor allow God to be stolen of His own prayer for you. If you truly wish to have the Spirit of God flow like a river, then fully bond yourself in the Spirit. In this, the Spirit will flow full of the Joy, Love, and Hope given of the Spirit of God. Full of Life and Immortality; full of the Might and Glory of the Lord. Come then and abide in Him and He alone, and become one led by the Spirit that Life may come rest upon you and remain. This Life then will flow like rivers of Living Water from you as the Spirits of God are engaged.
Man follows law and knowledge but not the Spirit of God of whom Himself is Knowledge.
Let there be no sliver of paper between you and Jesus, for He is the Vine of which the Spirit liberally flows. Let there be no separative virus of Doubt or Unbelief but instead be fully united in Him and He alone. He alone is Life, and what flows in Him flows now liberally in you. The things that you allow between you and the Vine only steals and robs you of the fulfilled Promises and the Eternal Purposes of God. Be not stolen from nor be denied. Come out of the Wilderness for this place was never ever God’s intention or purpose for you.
In seeking first the Presence of God, His Person manifest, one is continually picked up and carried up over the wildernesses of life.
And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth. (Revelation 5:6 NKJV)
In Christ Jesus are the Spirits of the Lord, and the same Spirits of God have been freely sent out upon the whole earth. The Spirits of the Lord surround the Father and abide in His midst. To you who choose to abide in Him, the same Spirits abide in you. They surround you and are in you … Jesus therefore, only says to you, “remain in me” (John 15:4).
In seeking first the Presence and Honour that comes from God, the Father Honours you; He Graces your life with He Himself and all of Heaven is in attendance. How the Father esteems you, how He desires to Honour Himself in you; He esteems you so much as to send His Son to die on the Cross for you. He did this so that you need not taste death, and as you identify with His death you are also raised into His Life.
Praise is a weapon and abandonment unto the Cross is a sword, for the Spirit of the Lord comes and stands in place of you.
Truly the old has gone and the New has come. Come then and put aside the old ways and be refreshed continually in the New. The Life of the Spirit abiding within you is purposed to make you one victorious, triumphant, and impervious (Mark 16:18). Those born of the Spirit truly are alien in this world, for they are not born of this world any more than Jesus. Come then, and enter deeper into the Mysterious and Powerful work of the Spirit; allowing God to materialise in all who you are and in all that you do.
The Kingdom of Heaven is never purposed to only be a matter of talk, but God is purposed for you to walk in the demonstrable Power of God (1 Cor. 2:4, 4:20). This is the Way of God, and this is the Way of the Spirit of the Lord, and this too is the Way of Heaven. The calling of the Gospel Message is to come step back a little, and give place for the Spirit of the Lord to Honour the Name of Jesus through you. We are not called to walk according to our own strength and understanding but the Strength and Understanding that comes from God. Therefore, it is God who desires to demonstrate Himself in order for all eyes to be drawn to the Son and to He alone … that they might be Healed (John 3:14-15). Humble yourself, therefore, and give honoured place for the Lord. Seek first the Presence of God, and here live in the continuing bliss of His ministering Presence.
There is something better than praying for souls or for healing, and that is to seek and pray for a greater union in the Spirit; even for a greater Anointing upon your life. For it is the Spirit that saves, the Spirit that heals, and the Spirit that works and goes out through those who are His own; even for the nations. The Spirit of the Lord desires to heal, to save, and to capture the nations unto Life; but the carnal minded believer denies Him. It is not flesh driven zeal for God, but Zeal of the Spirit … even the Fire of God. Therefore, become one Spirit-minded; this is the Heart of both the Gospel and the Father. ‘Not by might, nor by understanding or strength of man, but by my Spirit says the Lord’. This is an ancient word, but is fresh for you today.
The Fruits of the Spirit allow you to move in realms that are far beyond your earthly origins. These being your basis and your ‘home’. The Gifts of God, however, are the extension of God’s arm, His Hand going out beyond you. But the Spirits of the Lord are the very flow of the Father, the fullness of Him speaking continually into your life and stepping through you in Mighty signs and wonders in the Fear and Glory of the Lord (Prov. 8:13).
For you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays. And you will go out and frolic like well-fed calves. (Malachi 4:2 NIV)
So in conclusion, it is good to be wise and knowledgeable, but what is better is the Spirit of Wisdom and Knowledge flowing in you. It’s good to have strength and might, but what is better is the Spirit of Might to come and rest upon your life; this is for you and all the generations. You are not called to live by your own strength and understanding, nor that of others, but you are called to step into and operate in the Strength and of the Understanding that flows liberally from the Spirit. This is the Way of the Spirit: the abiding in and eating liberally of the Tree of Life; and the same bearing its Fruit abundantly in you.
What is better, striving in your flesh to honour God, or diligently entering the Rest found in the Spirit of the Lord? Here gaining increased revelation of your own identity in Him, and operating from this Place of the Spirit’s Power? Operating from a Place of Anointing where God Himself moves and Honours His own Name, and draws the eyes of the multitudes unto the Son. This, then, is the Way of the Spirit, but it does run contrary to the yeast of Herod and that of the Pharisees.
Bless you …
Pray this prayer with me. “Lord, I am so encouraged to seek the Presence of the Lord all the more. How the Enemy wishes to place a load on my shoulders, even for me to take matters into my own hands. Lord truly I step back and give you honoured place to be free to work in my life. I earnestly seek the fullness of all your Promises, even for the Spirit of Might to rest upon my life; the Anointing of the Lord; that you may honour the Son and bring healing to the nations. Bless you Lord, amen’.
