Day #28: Spirit Bears Witness
The Spirit Bears Witness

Theme Scripture:

1. But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me (‘He will testify’)

2. And you also will bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning. (John 15:26-27 ESV)

The way Jesus walked among the people of Israel, He walks also in the streets of your town today. The same picture is here and now, though He in spirit. As you walk with Him and sit and eat together, He, your Teacher, shares continually of Himself and of the Truth of God. Then because you have walked with Him since the ‘beginning’, or in our case as the root basis of our life, now you can truly be a ‘witness’ for Him. A witness of the one of whom you both intimately know and to that of which you have seen (John 3:11).

Structural basis of ministry: (Mark 3:14-15)

He appointed twelve that they might …

1st. be with Him, and

2nd. that He might send them out to preach, and

3rd. to have authority to heal the sick and drive out demons.

To be with Jesus is the single right basis of the Christian life. This single-most cause, this one purpose, one duty, one responsibility, one vision, one hope, and one foundation; and His Name is Jesus. Jesus the Author of Life, the Author of Faith; the Christ, the Saviour, the Resurrection and the Life. Our single calling is to be with Him, to abide in Him, entering into the Rest and Presence of the Lord. It is from this place of being as a little child in Him, that He openly shares of Himself in Person, and the Holy Spirit Himself also testifies, imparting of the Person of Jesus. It is in this abiding place, this ‘being with Jesus’, that mountains are moved; they being turned to chaff and blown away by the wind.

Jesus healed all who came to Him, the answer then is for us to go to Him (and point others in the same). There is nothing in us, Jesus is the Answer! If we truly wish and deeply long to bring healing to the suffering, to set the captives free, and ‘preach’ the Good News of our Lord and Saviour then we need to go to Him, ie; ‘be with Him’. It is in this ‘closest relationship’, our ‘abiding in His Love’, of which He truly makes Himself known to us. This Knowing, this Faith, this Hope that He gives us and His Love that comes upon us, becomes the immovable tap-root of our soul and whole being. When people come to you for healing it is the resident Resurrected Jesus abiding in you of whom heals. Our first and foremost calling is to be with Him, to remain in Him in body, soul, mind, and spirit. Knowing that it is from this ‘abiding’ where He places words in your mouth to speak and ‘preach’ (Spirit of Knowledge and Counsel) and healing in your hands to give (Spirit of Might). These things effortlessly spring from He of whom you, in all things, are truly one and bonded with. This single place of abode.

In reference to Isaiah 61:1:

For the Spirit of the Lord is upon me. Because HE, has anointed me. to preach the good news to the poor. To Heal the broken hearted. To Proclaim liberty to the captives. and to release the prisoners from darkness.

Intimacy: there is an intimacy in the Lord that is available to the measure that you yourself long for. God desires the deepest of intimacy, however, your love and life is in your hands to offer. Intimacy is not automatic but has been afforded you by the Cross and the Blood shed for you. Jesus has opened this Door for you, now feel welcome to pursue, enter in, and partake richly of. There is an intimacy, a closeness, an ability to draw from God that no one can take away from you. No issue or ‘reality’ of life can steal from you, and it is in this place that the Hand of God comes powerfully to bear.

Look at these numbers: 70, 12, 3 and 1, do they mean anything to you? Of course, there were the 12 disciples and the 70 who went out as well. Then of the Twelve there were the three of whom were close to Jesus, and of these three there was one to whom was known to be especially close to Him. In this picture, where do you wish to be? This choice is yours here today. Though the seventy walked with Jesus and even did miraculous signs and wonders, they were of those who said, ‘who can receive this?’ (John 6:66) and many followed Him no longer. Then within the Twelve “one of you is a devil” (John 6:70), of whom betrayed Him. There was another who obstinately struggled with doubt and unbelief. Then of the same Twelve there were three of whom the Lord entrusted and revealed Himself deeper to, even for them, in secret, to experience the Transfiguration (Matt. 17). John, of these three, was the one known to be closest to Him and his experience and relationship with the Author of Life was of a different depths and awareness than the others.

Allow, therefore, a deepening relationship and closeness with the Lord of Glory upon your life. Let this be your root-cause, hunger and drive. For this is both the right foundation and vision. You too, today, can be one who is deeply close to Jesus, even intimate, with whom He shares with you revealing of Himself. And as He confides and ‘entrusts’ Himself (John 2:24) to you, He ‘opens your eyes’ and ‘burns in your heart’ (Luke 24:32, 45).

In this Luke 24 passage we have two of Jesus’ disciples walking along, then Jesus appears walking with them. That is, the Resurrected Jesus. Jesus began talking with them sharing and opening the Scriptures to them. I wish to make this clear here: this hasn’t changed! Jesus still appears to His beloved ones, those of whom He entrusts Himself to (John 2:24). As you, in honesty of heart, choose to reach out and seek Jesus, HE COMES! Regardless if you just received salvation here today, or have been a Christian for decades – He comes. Humble yourself therefore, and out of honest love seek and wait upon the Lord.

James 4:7:

If you truly wish to have demons and sickness flee then humble and abase yourself before your Lord and Saviour. Fully submit to Him, laying your love, life and it’s cares fully in Him. He is your Life so choose to make Him your life. Now it is from this abiding place in Jesus, that when you stand up resisting the Devil that he will flee, and sickness and oppression flee with him. This triumphant lifestyle comes to those who live entirely subject and submitted to the Spirit. Choose then, to abase yourself before the Lord, as Jesus did (Phil. 2:5-11 AMPC) and the Father will lift you up with energies beyond the youth in wisdom, stature, and in the favour of the Lord (Luke 2:52).

Seek Him today with expectation that He comes, and He will come. Live in deep expectation and hunger for Him, for He personally comes and shares of Himself and He opens your eyes and burns in your soul; right here and today. And in addition the Spirit bears Witness transferring of that which is Jesus’ into your being (John 16:14-15 AMPC). This is the Way of the Gospel, our Lord and Saviour walks with you, imparting of Himself and instructing you in the Ways of Life and of the realms of the Kingdom of God. The Thief, however, endeavours to come in between, to belittle your relationship with the Lord, and draw you away. But you choose to hold a resilience and a set fixed eye. Choosing to only listen and wait upon the Lord of whom builds you up richly in Him, each and every day.

This is the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ; He, as our ‘Teacher’, personally teaches us and disciples us Himself. This has never changed, though now of course in spirit. But this needs to be our daily choice: not issues, worldly views, influences of others, not cares or desires, failures or success, not pride or religious practices; but JESUS! Allow the Holy Spirit to ‘testify’ to you as you ‘walk’ with the Person of Jesus here and now. Not just reading about Him from a distance, no, but sitting with Him and being ministered to by Him, each and every day. Humble yourself in regular prayer and fasting, and partake daily of the ‘Manna of God’. Eat daily of the banquet of His Goodness, Truth, and Living Word. It is He who overcomes in us even through a culture of prayer and fasting, as we eagerly wait daily upon the Lord (ie; ‘single-eyed’ of soul and in deep hunger for Him (Deut. 8:3))

As the Holy Spirit testifies about Jesus to you, you are then simply able to be a witness to your world of the One of whom you personally know and live in daily experience of. Not only so but the Father within you rises up doing His wonderful works through you. This is the Gift of God, this is the Seed planted; the very Person of Jesus abiding in you. This not in word alone but in manifest tangible realities. Not being a witness only of a knowledge about Him that you have read or someone has told you, but a witness of the One of whom you are dearly close to and of things that you have both seen and know.

Mark 3:14-15:

Daily wait upon Him with a heart of expectation, that Jesus, Himself, will come and visit you; and the Holy Ghost will ‘testify’ to you of the Person of Jesus within you. And the Life that He produces in your daily walk in Him will cause you to bear witness of the Power, the Love, and the Goodness of God that you live in experience of, ie; your ‘testimony’. And as He rises up in you all the more, He does mighty works through you; bearing Witness as He did in His Son and even greater works than these (John 14:12, Rev. 12:11). Truly our flesh profits us nothing at all, but the Spirit Himself profits us with a measure unlimited.

Pray this prayer with me. ‘Lord, I open my heart to the Spirit of God that you may bear Witness in me and through me. Lord my family needs you, my friends need you, people I meet and hear of need you. Not word alone but your healing Presence. Lord, I welcome you and pursue this reality in me: intimacy in the Lord that bring the manifest Holy Ghost. Please come upon my life in increasing measure to the blessing of my life and those around me. In Jesus Name. Amen’.
