Day #17: To be with Him
“Intended to Pass By”

Seeing them straining at the oars, for the wind was against them, at about the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea; and He intended to pass by them. (Mark 6:48 NLT)

What is important to see from this event is that Jesus values your invitation and personal hunger for Him. Longing for Him to ‘walk among you’ (Rev. 2:1-5) and not ‘walk on by’. There are many things that do not come without a heart longing and ‘crying out’ for the Person of Jesus. A heart that simply hungers and seeks the Lord and the Kingdom manifest.

Jesus ‘intended to walk on by’; there are many things that the Lord does not give automatically, unless you come to ASK Him, seek Him, knock and have hunger enough to pause and wait upon the Lord. What the Father desires to give is very precious. He desires to work through your life, and in increasing measure for you to learn to draw from the very Throne-room of God; abiding in the River that flows from the Lamb (Rev. 22:1, 2, 17). No being of all of creation or of the Heavenly Realms has this right or capacity except you and I – lovers of our Lord God.

‘Knocking’ on the Door of the Lord; fasting is an earnest form of prayer, of boldly asking Jesus manifest. It is a ‘valiant’ (Matt. 11:12 JUB) ‘laying hold’ (Phil. 3:12) of that which Christ died to give. Prayer and fasting (sitting in His Presence) is a wonderful and powerful spiritual communication ‘tool’, that moves the Heart of the Father concerning you. It expresses a longing for the Heart of the Father, and a hunger for the Promises of God fulfilled. It is the attitude of setting yourself aside in earnest waiting on the Lord. Especially that you don’t even have the vocabulary to effectively express what you desire, let alone what the Spirit desires (Rom. 8:26).

Prayer and fasting breaks every stronghold. For example, instead of battling against habits and strongholds of sin with your own strength and mental discipline alone. Retain a culture of fasting and seeking the Presence of the Lord to rise up in you, and He will make you an overcomer. He will make you victorious and turn even your weaknesses and errors into great strength. His Presence will rise up with such wonder to behold that you will gladly shake off any hindrances, and the sweetness (Ps. 63:1-3 NKJV) of His Presence breaks every spiritual or habitual holds over your life.

If you long for the Peace and the Joy of the Lord, but it has been a distant reality to you, then decidedly worship and fast, waiting upon the Lord. He will break the ‘stronghold’ and release the Joy of the Lord, and your ‘cup’ will overflow. Sickness, relatives saved, relationship problems, or a lack of sensing a closeness in the Lord; the answer is in developing a culture, a lifestyle of prayer, fasting, and going aside in the Lord. Meditating in His Word and sitting in His Presence. Fasting is Heaven’s way of expressing a humbling before the Lord, it is a powerful physical form of spiritual communication. A decisive and clear form of ‘ask’, ‘seek’ and ‘knock’. Recognise that on its own it’s absolutely nothing, especially if done religiously or in the eyes of others (Matt. 6:16-18), it is, however, an attentiveness unto the Lord. But in the love of God, in a hunger for Him, in honest intent; it is an extremely powerful form of ‘crying out’ to the Lord.

Seek and wait upon the Lord and the Lord will be with you in all that you do. It is not you or I who do the effective ‘work’, it is God our Father of whom we seek and invite that works in us and through us (John 14:10). Cry out for the Glory of the Lord to come into your ‘boat’. Many issues of the human condition are strongholds that require the Lord’s guidance and His Hand at work. Some issues can be dealt with by awareness and a decisive action alone. Others require the Might and Presence of the Spirit of God rising up healing you, setting you free, and standing guard over you.

Many Christians struggle with issues for decades or may never overcome them. However, you are called to be overcomers, to be victorious, to be courageous (Rev. 3:21, 21:7). You can choose to go against strongholds seeking the Hand of God through the ‘humbling’ of yourself in simple prayer and fasting. Instead of struggling in your own strength, knowledge, pride, and frailty. Fasting and waiting on the Lord is a simple, but a very powerful spiritual tool, given you by the Holy Ghost.

But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about.” Then his disciples said to each other, “Could someone have brought him food?” “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.” (John 4:32-34 NIV)

Jesus Himself often fasted, for His heart ached for to do the Will and Work of the Father. This is a part of the meaning of fasting: a hunger for the ‘Will’, ‘Work’ and ‘Word’ of God (Matt. 6:9-11). Also to walk in the same Spirit of Might and Counsel that Jesus did (Is. 11:1-3). Jesus could have had a sandwich and then afterwards went about ministering to the Samaritans. But His hunger, His zeal for the ‘Will’ and ‘Work’ of God, was all consuming (as though He was fasting on their behalf).

What I’d like to encourage: if there is anything in you that would like to reach out for more of Jesus, more of the Holy Spirit, more of the purposes and Presence of God manifest – then GO FOR IT! Do not be hindered or discouraged, for God is jealously longing for you to honestly reach out to Him more. But there is a right way going about it, there is a right approach. He sent His Son to die on the Cross so that you might be able to enter deep into wondrous things, far beyond all that you could ever imagine. But He is a Treasure and ‘treasures’ need to be treasured, sought and even dug for. He is King and does not bow down to the whim of man, but responds swiftly to a genuine inquiry and humbling before Him.

Jesus desires for you to ‘be with Him’ (Mark 3:13-15), not just in word but truly in your heart, in your mind, and in your flesh. He longs to pour out the Spirit to heal, to raise the dead, to set the captives free, and save your generation – but you do not let Him! By your heart remaining ‘distant’, unprepared, and ‘unkindled’; a believer denies the world around them of His fullness (Luke 12:49). You are the gateway to the Kingdom of God for those around you. Be encouraged, therefore, to wait upon the Lord for Him to prepare you richly in Him. That He might manifest, reveal, and make Himself known in you, and in your world.

The disciples welcomed, invited, and even ‘cried out’ for Jesus to come into their boat. You have the same opportunity presented you here today and every day … ‘valiantly’ cry out to the Person of Jesus manifest in and among you.

Scripture: (a Scripture Jesus referred to when being tested by Satan)
And He humbled you and allowed you to hunger and fed you with manna … that He might make you recognize and personally know that man does not live by bread only, but man lives by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord. (Deut. 8:3 AMPC)

Pray this prayer with me. ‘Lord, I cry out for you to come into my boat. I know I am one of the beloved, but I don’t want you just to walk on by. I know I have strength and capacity, I can handle most things on my own. But what I can achieve on my own is worthless compared to the Glory of your Person in me. All is refuse compared to your surpassing Glory. Please come into my life, please take command of it, in Jesus Name. Amen’.
