Day #14: To be with Him
“Love vs. Works” (part 2)

Dwell in Me, and I will dwell in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit of itself without abiding in (being vitally united to) the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in Me. (John 15:4 AMPC)

You are not called to focus on your branches but on your roots. This is why some believers spring up tall and broad-limbed in their own eyes, or that of their peers, but fail to nurture or build deep intimacy in the Father. Their strength has been matured in their own works and doctrine, but not in the Spirit of God. Perhaps broad rooted but not deep rooted; their tap-root remaining dormant and shallow. When a storm of life comes along the tree falls over (eg: a minister or believer ‘falls’) because its root structure has not been established in the Love and Might of the Lord God (Matt. 13:20-22), but in the vision and ways of man.

Paul speaks of dressing in the full armour of God (Eph. 6:10-18) but most Christians don’t really know how to do this, or what it really means. I encourage you that as you privately come to bask in the Presence of the Lord, and experience Him, you will only rightly yearn for more of His Presence. Your regular meeting with the Lord of Glory, and experiencing the sharing of His Spirit into your spirit; His Presence coming upon your life. As the Voice of the Father rises up within you, and you become more acquainted in the Courts of God, you also become more aware of the increasing quality of the Armour of which you now wear.

There are ‘flaming arrows’ that come of a size and a strength that thin armour simply does not defend (Luke 22:31, John 12:6). For example, pride or retained ‘cherished sin’ (Ps. 66:18) leaves a hole or a thinning of your shield. This lack of depth in your root leaves you wanting when the Enemy comes, and he DOES come! The answer is to remain ready rather than trying to get ready (Matt. 17:21), so you can stand in the Strength of the Lord and wield the Sword of the Spirit. Even going on the offensive against the schemes of the Evil One.

There is a holiness (Matt. 5:48) demanded by the Gospel message that is not in the slightest bit achievable in your own strength. As the Blood gives you right standing before God, the Spirit gives you the capacity to walk in the fullness of that of which the Father seeks. The Blood makes you righteous before the Father but the Spirit sanctifies; and “without holiness, no one will see the Lord” (Heb. 12:14). Another word for ‘holiness’ is maturity in nature and in the character OF the Father. As your heart yearns to be closer in Him, His sheer tangible Presence, His Love that comes upon you, erases even the dross of the nature of sin and death. Bringing you into the fullness of God, and the full image of His Son; set apart in the Lord.

As a believer of our Lord Jesus Christ, God has accepted you; sin, warts, and all. Even though sin has no place in the Kingdom of God, you are still made accepted, and made welcomed, just as you are (Grace)! It is in your love for God reaching out in the Love of God, that the Spirit of God is free to work in you; changing how you think, walk, and feel. To be conned into a ‘show’ of righteousness has your tree upside down. To feel that you have to get the thousands of commands right first is to deny the Blood shed for you, as you strive in your flesh to achieve right standing with God and man (Luke 18:11-13). This is the basis of religion, religious practices, and religious fatal pride. As the Scriptures say, “we are not under Law but under Grace”, not a striving of ‘works’ but a striving deeper into the intimate Love of God; of whom rises up in you and does His Work through you to the honour of the Father(1 Cor. 13).

It is only through the Spirit of God that the Fruits OF the Spirit are produced, of your own flesh you cannot produce them. Nor can you, of your own flesh, form the intricate branches and twigs of the commands of the Son. The flesh profits man nothing it is the Spirit of whom produces Life (John 6:63). Your heart rightly directed and drawing from the Love and Spirit of God – He does the work! His Grace resting on your life, His Love rising up within you, and His Glory overshadowing your life; He develops the Righteousness and Fruit that the Father seeks. Our flesh accomplishes absolutely nothing compared to the holiness that the Gospel expresses. Our knowledge, achievements, and righteousness are likened to that of a ‘worm’, but as the Spirit says; ‘I will help you’, and ‘I will take you by your right hand’, ‘I will make you into a sharp instrument’ (Is. 41:13-19). The Lord Himself will fashion you into His full purpose and vision concerning you, lifting you up in high standing in Him.

This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh? (Gal. 3:2-3 NKJV)

You have been grafted into the family of Abraham. As a ‘son of Jacob’ the Father will take you by your right hand and help you, clothing you in the Righteousness and Might of God; in all your deeds, in all you set your hands to, and in all that you think and say. The only prerequisite is that you ‘remain’ in Him; love to Love, yearning to Yearning. Your love set toward the Lord and not the love of this world, your love set in the Father and not the lures or condemnation of the Opposer.

Satan is the most cunning of all the creatures of the earth. He first showed his ugly head by twisting the very words of God in order to con and subdue man. He remains a powerful influence on this earth and mankind is used to hearing his voice. But it is the Father’s Voice that you need to yearn for and learn to be accustomed to hearing. It is the Voice of the Father that your roots need to strive for, and as a ‘priority’ word of the Gospel we need to hunger for the Voice of God more than our bread or daily needs (Matt. 4:4). With a prayerful heart; “Lord give me my ‘Daily Bread’ (Matt. 6:11), this spiritual Manna that only comes from the mouth of God.”

If Satan realised that murdering the Son of God would be his own demise, he “would not have crucified the Lord of glory” (1 Cor. 2:8). Satan has the Word of God in his reading as well, but he does not have the Voice of God to reveal or impart capacity to understand it or make it alive.

Satan lost and Jesus won! The demon always makes mistakes but the Lord God never does. You are therefore able to treat everything that comes against you as a ‘setup’ for the demon to lose! The Spirit of God raising a standard on your behalf (Is. 59:19). Through the Blood of the Cross and the Spirit of God gifted you, you can pull down everything that sets itself up against the Goodness of God (2 Cor. 10:4-5) and proclaim Life! With your roots nourished by the Voice of God that feeds your soul, you grow exponentially as the ‘Planting of the Lord’. Strengthened and matured to be a shelter for the weak and the lost, with sustenance to feed the hungry, seed to bring the same Gift of Life, and hands to heal.

Pray this prayer with me. ‘Lord, I long to abide in you, I long to dwell united in the Lord. However, I don’t know how. Please lead me every day that I may grow bonded, one with the Lord of Glory. Please draw my roots into you, of my flesh I don’t know how this is done, but I pray every day welcoming you, the Gardener of my soul. I wish not to be a ground full of weeds but the planting of the Lord, I wish to be fruitful even though I don’t know how. Please plant me in the Good Soil and cause me to flourish, in Jesus Name. Amen’.
