Day #6: Freedom in Christ
“Walking in the Spirit”
Everything in our Christian walk needs to be based and drawn from the Spirit and not from the flesh. Not man’s intellect, wisdom or strength (Zech. 4:6). For example, we love the Lord and work to honour Him the best we know how; in our own strength, understanding, and doctrine (Prov. 3:5). But what the Father seeks, is the Spirit of God within us rising up and doing His Work (John 14:10) honouring the Son through each one of us (John 14:12-14); with His Strength, Understanding, and Love.
The Power of God is of the Holy Spirit and not of our own flesh (John 6:63). Therefore, the path of the Spirit is the root of the Christian walk. If you truly wish to be successful it is of great encouragement to develop a culture of earnestly seeking the Presence of God. To keep in step and remain walking in step with the Spirit of God (Gal. 5:16-26), and the abundant and rich benefits it brings.
The Lord speaks to you when your heart is yearning to be close in Him. He leads you and helps you to be able to walk in step with Him as you live with a heart of invitation for Him. When you earnestly seek the Presence of the Lord upon your life, the Spirit of God, Himself, aligns your heart with that of the Father’s. HIS Love, His Faith, His Rest rises in you. And what are these, but the Fruits of the Spirit. Coming to bear increasing likeness of Him and dwelling where He is, right here and now. Not just in word, doctrine or faith, but in manifest tangible realities that you can feel, taste and see.
Take regular time aside in the Lord. Meditate in His Word, praise Him in song, keep a pen and paper handy and invite Him to come visit you again. Bask in His Presence and come and behold a new measure of His Glory upon your life; then ‘returning back’ with Him as you go about your daily life. Whether you’re a house mum, a student, a worker, or in ministry; make greater place for Jesus to rise up in you and for the Spirit to glorify the Father through you. Allow for a greater participation of the Goodness of God to liberally flow into your life, your family and all you set your hands to.
There is a Rest in the Lord that is planted by the Spirit and nurtured by the Father, that remains even in the midst of the strongest of storms. It comes in the form of confidence. A deep confidence that is given, seeded in you by the Spirit of God of whom you seek and where of whom you reside. From this place of Rest and confidence, you can freely draw from the Love, Anointing, Power, Might, and Glory of God even to calm the very real storms of life – with a word. This Rest is not from your own striving, but is planted within you by the Spirit of God, of whose you are, and from within whom you choose to dwell in day by day. This is the moral of the story of Jesus sleeping (at Rest) in the boat in the midst of a storm.
Scripture: (a ‘parable’ of Rest)
On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!” (Mark 4:35-41 NKJV)
The demon is vehemently opposed to you walking in the Freedom, the Power, and the fullness of the Spirit of God. For with your root set in the Lord, nothing can stand against you, for God is with you. And upon your mouth you have the Words of Life; to heal, to raise the dead, to cast out demons, and calm storms. The Father desires to Anoint you in His Presence, to set the captives free, to break every foul grip and stronghold of the Evil One.
Shy away from doubting the Lord, doubting His capacity, His Love or His Word. Faith is not about you, what it really is about is how big and how willing God is in your eyes. Doubt has its roots in looking at your own capacity and how the god of this age has reduced the Father down to a distant, impersonal, and indifferent God. That you are an abandoned child, an orphan, and God is a very distant reality. This is not the truth that the Gospel speaks of, but is the doctrine ‘spoken’ and insinuated by the spirit of religion; spoken in the culture of your mind or through the mouths of others. The moment you choose to believe the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ you are connected with the One who is Faithful. So who’s voice do you choose to listen to? For it comes down to who you willing to believe.
When you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver [no hesitating, no doubting AMP] for a person with divided loyalty (split loves) is as unsettled as the waves of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided (‘root’) between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do. (James 1:5-8 NLT)
There is a right way for those really difficult times or seasons that come upon us all. The issues of life that can come with such anxiety, worry, fear, and distress. The most powerful weapon in the universe is in your capacity to praise the Name of Jesus rather than ‘wail upon your bed’ (Hos. 7:14). The most powerful way, for you yourself, to fight against the cares of this world overwhelming you, is to start praising the Name of Jesus and seeking His Face in the closed room (Matt. 6:6). Simply tell Him: “I love you Jesus”, “thank you Jesus”, “I want more of you Jesus”, “I need you Jesus”, “please Lord more of you and less of me”, “I long for you Lord, my heart cries out for the Living God”, “please come and manifest anew and afresh in me today.”
The greatest weapon against anything that you might face is praise and gratitude for the Blood that was shed for you. Christ Jesus rises up on your behalf, the walls of strongholds are broken down. Times of the wilderness are coming to an end and you find yourself crossing over and entering into the Promises of God prepared for you. Being free to walk and participate in them all.
In choosing to come and praise Jesus from your heart you simply find sickness, stress and the worries start leaving as Jesus Himself comes upon you. With a heart of honest praise unto the Lord, Jesus Himself comes and brings you deep assurance in your soul that He is at work on your behalf. Though a battle may yet ensue, He places a mysterious Rest in your soul. A deep sense of confidence that He is working on it for you and is guiding you through. Praise is the most powerful gift in the universe for it breaks every stronghold, especially when mixed with fasting (Matt. 17:21).
Pray this prayer with me. ‘Lord, I deeply desire to live led by the Spirit of God and not my flesh. Please forgive me for being so naturally inclined to the flesh even though my soul longs for you. I choose to have faith in God alone, I choose to draw from the Spirit alone. Lord, I long to participate in the Spirit of God that you may pour out through my life. I, therefore, sink the root of my soul into the Spirit that you may burst through my life. In Jesus Name. Amen’.
